DAVID HIGGINS

Today we celebrate the life of David Higgins, the youngest of three children born
to the union of Olivia and the late Wayne Higgins. His older brother Maurice
who affectionately called him “King David,” and his only sister Saunja who was
dependable and loyal.
David made his transition from time to eternity and labor to reward on March 17,
2023. He was preceded in death by his father Wayne Higgins, grandfather John
J. Patrick, uncle Donald Patrick and many other relatives who greeted him into
Heaven’s gate.
It was at Mt. Eagle Baptist Church that David was baptized by the late Rev. Edicular
Draine. His belief in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was evident in each of his
prayerful moments.
David graduated from Thomas J. Higgins Elementary School in 1988 and he
graduated from Corliss High School in 1992.
David was employed as a Bus Operator for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) for
over 17years.
King David was indeed a family man. On many summer days he was manning
the barbecue grill for backyard soul-food cookouts at his uncle George and aunt
Carmen house.
David took pride in each of his children: Jordan Lamont Higgins, Autumn Olivia
Higgins and Winter Lee Higgins. He was a hands-on kind of dad. It was as if he
wanted to convey to his children, I am here for you, I have a vision for you, my love
for you is always.
It must also be said how he was a sharp and meticulous dresser. You could catch
him at any event dressed to a “T,” he was a true style-master.
Left to celebrate the life and forever cherish the memories of David Higgins are
his loving son Jordan Lamont Higgins; 2 beautiful daughters: Autumn Olivia Higgins
and Winter Lee Higgins; a loving devoted mother Olivia Higgins; grandmother
Fannie Mae Patrick “Big Mama;” siblings: Maurice Duane Higgins Sr. and Saunja
(Timothy) Rubens; nieces: Sascha and Timora Rubens; nephews: Maurice Duane
Higgins Jr. and Marquese Duane Higgins; uncles: George (Carmen) Higgins,
Lieutenant, Michael, Curtis (of Memphis, TN) and James (Marva) Patrick; aunts:
Lula Henderson, Dorothy and Patricia Higgins; special cousins: Howard and Keisha
Higgins, and Rontel Pullum; special friends: Chris Cotharn and Joe Carter; a special
daughter Brittney Stephens, who affectionately called him ”Daddy Dave;” special
Goddaughter Jazmen Cotharn; special friend Linda Sneed; a host of cousins, other
relatives and friends.
David will truly be missed.
